Labelling consulting

Correct labelling of food products is an important element of communication and informing the consumers about the product.  General rule of food law is providing the consumers information that enables making a conscious decision on choosing a food product and precluding practices that mislead and misinform the consumers.

General requirements on food products labelling are standardized by the Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers. The basic requirement regarding labelling is providing an honest, clear and easy to understand information for the customers. Any misleading practices are forbidden, especially those which can disorientate the consumer in terms of:

  • properties,
  • ingredients,
  • amount,
  • durability,
  • country or place of origin,
  • methods of production,
  • ascribing the properties the product does not have,
  • suggesting some special properties of a product when in fact all similar food products have such properties.
