Clinical Studies of Food Supplements

Food supplements have become an integral part of modern lifestyles in recent years. Consumers increasingly choose products that support health, well-being, and vitality, while also expecting proven quality, safety, and effectiveness. In order for food supplement providers to offer reliable, effective, and professionally supported products to their customers, clinical studies of effectiveness are of key importance.

At J.S. Hamilton Slovenia, we provide comprehensive expert support in the planning and implementation of clinical studies that demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of food supplements and provide credible results to support marketing activities.

What are clinical studies of food supplements?

Clinical studies of food supplements are research studies conducted on volunteers with the aim of objectively evaluating their effectiveness, safety, and usability. They provide manufacturers with independently obtained, scientifically supported evidence that forms a solid basis for professional communication, advertising, and strengthening competitive advantage in the market.

Can clinical studies be used for health and nutrition claims?

In Slovenia and the European Union, legislation regarding food supplements is very strict, particularly concerning the use of health and nutrition claims. Even when clinical studies of food supplements are conducted, it is not possible to use claims that are restricted or regulated by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

However, such studies can demonstrate the effectiveness of your specific food supplement that has not yet been verified by independent institutions. The demonstrated properties apply exclusively to your product and cannot be generalized to other similar food supplements on the market.

For which food supplements is it advisable to conduct a clinical study?

Clinical studies are particularly recommended for food supplements intended for:

  • weight management,
  • improving the condition of skin, hair, and nails,
  • improving the appearance and health of the skin,
  • and other products with pronounced functional effects (support during menopause, fatigue, joint pain, etc.).
