Feed Efficiency Tests and Metabolic Energy (ME)
Feed efficiency tests are studies that evaluate how efficiently animals convert consumed feed into energy, growth, or milk production. The purpose of these tests is to determine the nutritional value of feed, optimize animal nutrition, and improve animal productivity, while also reducing losses and environmental impact.
Pet Food Palatability Tests
A pet food palatability test is a study that focuses on the animal’s response to a given food, taking into account the animal’s behavior, the owner’s opinion of the product, and the animal’s level of satisfaction.
The palatability test is based on the opinion/observations of the pet owner, which are crucial in the purchasing decision.
The use of questions with numerical scales allows statistical inference to be included in the report (similar to consumer food surveys).
A comprehensive testing scheme – the form includes both questions addressed to the owner (their opinion of the product) and questions based on observation of the animal’s behavior (its willingness to consume the given food).
