Dermatological tests

Dermatological tests help assess the safety of cosmetics and determine whether a product irritates the skin or causes allergies. A dermatological test is always conducted under the supervision of a qualified dermatologist, who evaluates the skin type of adult test subjects. Our clinical tests of cosmetic and personal care products are designed to provide support from the product development stage through to market release.

Conducting a dermatological test allows the use of the claim “dermatologically tested.”

Our offering includes the following types of dermatological tests:

  • open test – recommended for potentially irritating products (e.g., products with urea, products with high/low pH, AHA peels, depilatory products),
  • semi-open test (including HRIPT) – for most cosmetic products, using panels of:
    • normal skin,
    • sensitive skin,
    • combination skin,
  • closed test – a more restrictive test, suitable for most cosmetic products,
  • T-shirt test – recommended for textile washing and rinsing products intended for sensitive skin and children, with single application.

Our dermatological tests are accredited and compliant with:

  • Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2009 on cosmetic products,
  • Cosmetics Europe – The Personal Care Association (formerly COLIPA) guidelines – Guidelines for the Assessment of the Compatibility of Cosmetic Products with Human Skin (1997),
  • Cosmetics Europe guidelines for the evaluation of cosmetic product efficacy (2008),
  • testing procedures and technical instructions.
