Efficacy studies

Efficacy Studies of Cosmetic Products

Efficacy studies form the basis for credible and scientifically supported claims about cosmetic products. Their purpose is to objectively assess whether a product actually delivers the promised effects – from moisturizing and improving skin structure to reducing wrinkles, strengthening hair and nails, and many other benefits. The studies are designed in accordance with international standards and often include clinical testing on volunteers, laboratory measurements using specialized equipment, and expert evaluation by qualified specialists (dermatologists, ophthalmologists, pediatricians, gynecologists, trichologists, etc.). Results are analyzed using appropriate statistical methods, providing scientifically supported, objective, and reproducible evidence of product efficacy.

Which cosmetic efficacy studies are available?

At J. S. Hamilton laboratories, we conduct clinical and non-clinical efficacy studies of cosmetic products. Research is based on:

  • subjective assessment (consumer opinions and perceptions) and/or
  • objective assessment (instrumental measurements),

taking into account regular and repeated use of the product according to its intended purpose and expected duration of effect.

Instrumental Testing

Instrumental testing allows an objective and precise evaluation of a cosmetic product’s impact on skin, hair, and nails. It includes measurement of key biological and physical parameters and provides a reliable method for assessing the actual effects of the product.

Examples of studies we can provide:

  • testing skin hydration levels,
  • measuring skin pH,
  • assessing skin smoothness,
  • measuring skin biomechanical properties (firmness and elasticity),
  • TEWL test (transepidermal water loss),
  • analysis of skin tone (melanin and hemoglobin content),
  • measurement of wrinkle depth and length and wrinkle analysis,
  • evaluation of skin roughness and exfoliation,
  • measuring sebum secretion,
  • assessment of hair thickness and density,
  • studies of soothing effects,
  • assessment of comedogenic and acnegenic potential,
  • testing the efficacy of antiperspirants and deodorants,
  • measuring eyelash length and volume,
  • photographic documentation of study results.

Our offering includes studies under the professional supervision of dermatologists, ophthalmologists, pediatricians, gynecologists, dentists, and trichologists, along with advanced instrumental measurements of skin, hair, and nails.
