Analysis of Active Ingredients in Food Supplements
Active ingredients are the key carriers of effectiveness and safety in food supplements. Their quality, purity, and correct content must be carefully controlled throughout the entire product life cycle—from raw materials to the final product. At J.S. Hamilton laboratories, we perform comprehensive analyses of active ingredients in food supplements and provide expert support to manufacturers in ensuring product compliance, safety, and quality.
We analyse raw materials, active substances, and finished products. The laboratory holds a permit from the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate (GIF) to perform physico-chemical testing of medicinal products and operates in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles, confirmed by a valid GMP certificate.
Plant-Derived Active Ingredients
Plant-based active substances and extracts are an important component of modern food supplements. At the same time, they require increased control due to the possible presence of natural toxins and contaminants. Within the GMP framework, we perform testing of plant substances, including:
- determination of pesticide residues,
- determination of dithiocarbamates,
- testing for aflatoxin B1 and total aflatoxins,
- determination of pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
Synthetic Active Ingredients
For synthetic substances, we perform analyses in accordance with the highest pharmacopoeial and regulatory requirements. Our GMP services for synthetic substances include:
- screening, qualification, and validation of analytical methods for determining elemental impurities in active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and finished products using ICP-MS, in accordance with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) and USP,
- transfer of analytical methods to and from J.S. Hamilton laboratories, ensuring traceability and reliability of results.
